Killer Instinct to receive big 10th anniversary update this Fall

It’s wild to think that Killer Instinct made its grand return a full 10 years ago, and it seems like the story of the game is not quite done yet.

Following the KI exhibition at Evo 2023, Iron Galaxy and Microsoft announced Killer Instinct is going to be receiving a substantial 10th anniversary update to the game.

Coming this Fall, KI is going to receive its first balance update in like five years and first notable patch in three years that should get fans excited.

Head of KI over at Microsoft, James Goddard appeared in a special video alongside Maximilian and Iron Galaxy’s Adam Heart to reveal the news that players have been hoping for a long time to hear.

There doesn’t appear to be any new content in store for KI at this point still, but it sounds like presumably the entire cast is going to be re-tuned after years of seeing the meta develop and change.

On top of that, matchmaking is also going to receive an upgrade to make the experience smoother.

The update will contain 4K resolution optimization for the Xbox Series X and Series S as well.

The last update that changed the gameplay at all came back in March of 2018, so this might be the longest hiatus we’ve ever seen for a fighting game to come back and receive more, which is great to see even if it isn’t a brand new game.

They say there’s more to talk about for the KI 10th anniversary update coming in the next few months, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to learn more.
