Weber WBBL|09 is officially here and the Sydney Sixers are bowling first after stand-in captain Ashleigh Gardner won the bat flip

Meg Lanning will immediately be in the thick of the action in her return to the Weber WBBL with the Melbourne Stars batting first in the tournament opener against Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval.

Stand-in Sixers captain Ashleigh Gardner, who is filling in as Ellyse Perry serves a one-game ban for slow over rates, called correctly at the bat flip and elected to put her rivals in.

The Sixers have four debutants in their XI, with fresh internationals Chloe Tryon and Linsey Smith joined by locals Kate Pelle and Mathilda Carmichael.

English spinner Smith has come onto the Sixers’ primary list for Kiwi quick Jess Kerr, whose start to the tournament is being managed after she landed in Australia fresh from South Africa on Wednesday.

The Stars handed debuts to England international Sophia Dunkley and local quick Milly Illingworth.
