TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Road Closures on North Villere Street at Music and Arts Streets

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Road Closures on North Villere Street at Music and Arts Streets

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning Monday, Aug. 21, at 7 a.m., Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Command Construction Industries, LLC, will begin performing sewer utility upgrades work on North Villere Street, from Arts Street to Music Street. During this time, the parking and travel lanes of North Villere Street will be closed (see map).

Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. DPW asks that residents please adhere to ‘No Parking’ signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. The street is expected to reopen by mid-October 2023, once all upgrades are complete. Residents on the block will continue to be informed throughout the process.

This closure is part of the more than $18 million St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO). Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life, as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA-funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)’s Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024. Click here to view the community meeting presentation and map of the project.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 169 projects with an estimated value of $642 million. Today, 50 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $649 million.
