‘American Born Chinese’ Disney+ Series Canceled After One Season – WDW News Today

The Disney+ series “American Born Chinese” has been canceled after one season, Variety reports.

According to Variety’s source, Disney liked the series but viewership did not justify greenlighting a second season. Producers reportedly plan to shop the series around to other outlets.

All eight episodes of “American Born Chinese” premiered on Disney+ on May 24, 2023. It was based on the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang and chronicled “the trials and tribulations of a regular American teenager whose life is forever changed when he befriends the son of a mythological god.”

The TV series was created by Kelvin Yu, who served as showrunner and executive producer. Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) directed and executive produced. The series was produced by 20th Television.

“American Born Chinese” starred Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jimmy Liu, Ke Huy Quan, Sydney Taylor, and Daniel Wu.

The show was received positively, with a 94% Tomatometer and 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Watch the trailer:
