About us

The Environment Department is the largest department in the City of London Corporation with over 800 staff, working in 25 locations, providing key front-line services to the City and beyond. The Business Services Division enables the Department to deliver its aims and objectives, by providing business support to each division, ensuring a consistent, compliant and joined-up approach. Across this large and diverse department, the teams provide a central hub of expertise, advice and guidance on common themes, duties and responsibilities, and act as a conduit between divisions and the corporate centre.

The role

Based in the Business Services Division at the Guildhall, the Business Planning and Compliance Officer role proactively supports departmental compliance with Access to Information legislation, the Corporate Formal Complaints Procedure, and a range of other corporate process and protocols.

As a Business Planning and Compliance Officer, you will coordinate responses to information requests, subject access requests and formal complaints, ensuring statutory and corporate deadlines are met. You will support Departmental compliance with the requirements of the DPA and GDPR, ensuring that, for example, Data Protection Impact Assessments and Data Sharing Agreements are carried out correctly and that Privacy Notices and the Register of Processing Activities are kept up to date. You will provide advice and guidance to staff and managers throughout the Environment Department on these matters. You will liaise with the Corporate Information Compliance Team as necessary to seek advice, and you will represent the department at the Corporate Access to Information Network Forum, engaging in discussions and disseminating updates to colleagues.

You will ideally have a qualification in the Data Protection Act 2018 and/or the Freedom of Information Act 2000 or have equivalent experience and knowledge. Most importantly, you must be committed to continued learning and development. In return, we will support you in undertaking relevant training and professional qualifications to develop your career.
