Cold Temperatures Across Province to Ease Tonight

A cold snap is affecting every part of the province.

The temperature in St. John’s this morning is a bone-chilling minus 30 with the wind chill.

Environment Canada meteorologist Robert Grove says things will gradually improve today and overnight Wednesday .

The coldest temperatures and wind chills currently are occurring in Labrador. Nain, for example, has a temperature of minus 25 but with winds gusting to 80 km/h, the chill factor is minus 43.

While the deep freeze will be short-lived, the cold is forecast to return by early next week.

Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says the extreme cold means a higher risk of frostbite.

“Dress warmly, dress in layers, and make sure to keep exposed skin covered,” he suggests.
