D.C.-area forecast: Stormy Wednesday with heavy rain at times

Today: Numerous showers and thunderstorms. Highs: Mid-50s to near 60.
Tonight: Lingering evening showers. Lows: Near 40.
Tomorrow: Partly sunny, scattered p.m. showers likely. Highs: 50s.

The past two days started off rainy early in the morning, but then with extended breaks in the rain during the daylight hours. Today looks to be more consistent with multiple waves of showers and storms moving through during the day before diminishing tonight. Some spots could see enough rain for flooding issues. Scattered showers remain possible at times Thursday through Saturday, before a sunny and dry Sunday.

Today (Wednesday): Numerous showers and thunderstorms move through the region today with areas of heavy rain that could dump an inch or more. Temperatures reach the mid-50s to near 60 under cloudy skies. The best chance of a severe storm, with damaging winds and possibly a tornado, is south and southeast of D.C. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): The morning should be partly sunny and dry, but then becoming cloudy in the afternoon with scattered showers likely during the afternoon into evening. A few thundershowers are possible as well. Highs only in the 50s again. Winds are a bit breezy from the west, around 10 to 15 mph. Confidence: Medium

Low pressure continues to spin overhead Friday and Saturday. That keeps the chance of a few scattered showers going each day, but there should also be plenty of dry periods. Skies should be partly sunny with highs still in the 50s and a lingering breeze. Clearing skies arrive Saturday night with lows in the mid-30s to near 40. Confidence: Medium

High pressure finally takes over Sunday. So while we get off to the chilly start, mostly sunny skies should get us to afternoon highs in the upper 50s and low 60s with no rain expected. Confidence: Medium-High
