A commemorative medal has been issued by the Dubai Sports Council in recognition of the special efforts of people from public and private institutions during the recent unusual weather conditions.

It’s a gesture of gratitude in honour of the unrelenting work of the UAE’s first line of defence, including the police, municipality, civil defence, health, ambulance, airport, road and transport services, and all others who toiled day and night to ensure the safety of the community.

The medal includes an embossed logo of the Dubai Sports Council along with the words of gratitude: “To you, our hero”.

The Council will now identify these heroes and the medals will be handed out during various sporting and community events in the near future.

The UAE witnessed its heaviest rainfall in 75 years, with some areas recording more than 250 mm of rain in less than 24 hours.

The unprecedented rainfall flooded streets, uprooted trees and damaged properties, while traffic came to a standstill and flights were cancelled. However, the country stood united and responded jointly to minimise the damage.
