Fatal Burnaby stabbing, IHIT called in

A man was fatally stabbed in Burnaby on Monday evening, the Lower Mainland’s homicide team said.

Around 6:15 p.m., Burnaby RCMP officers were called to a stabbing along 1st Avene near Ingleton Avenue, in the city’s Willingdon Heights neighbourhood.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located a male victim on the ground, unconscious, with life-threatening injuries,” the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a statement.

“Burnaby Fire Department and Emergency Health Services also attended the scene. First responders attempted life-saving measures, however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police remained in the area throughout the night collecting evidence for their investigation.

It’s the second homicide in the Lower Mainland in just as many days. On Sunday night, a woman was killed in Surrey’s Port Kells neighbourhood.

Police are now urging anyone with information about the Burnaby fatality, or anyone with dash-cam footage of the area between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-557-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
