London’s most hyped pub is opening its rooftop for the summer

Performative Guinness drinkers who fancy a little sun with their pint, your time is now. The Devonshire in Soho has opened up its summer roof terrace. 

You might not have been to the ‘The Dev’ yet (not to be confused with the Camden heavy metal pub of the same name), but you’ve almost certainly heard about it. Found in the shell of an the Jamie’s Italian restaurant on Denman Street, it was one of the hype-est new openings of 2023; a new old-school boozer and high-end restaurant all-rolled into one.

Something of a celebrity draw, the likes of Nigella Lawson, Ed Sheeran and Margot Robbie have all be spotted there, and most nights you’ll find a throng of folk crowded outside the pub sipping on Guinness, which is the house speciality. The first floor restaurant is a self-styled chophouse, serving the likes of lamb cutlets, beef cheek and Guinness suet pudding, potted shrimp, brawn toast and pork chops, as well as a much talked-about Sunday roast. 

Now diners will be able to eat on the newly-opened roof terrace, with space for 40 covers on the third floor of the building. Bookings won’t be available, so you’ll just have to chance your luck. 

If you don’t manage to score one of the in-demand new rooftop tables, then there’s a new bar snack menu for the ground floor pub to keep you occupied, with sausage on a stick, cheese and ham toasties and chips with hollandaise all up for grabs. There’s also a bacon sandwich made with pigs reared by Brett Graham, the chef/owner of three Michelin starred Notting Hill restaurant, The Ledbury.
