Man charged after victim’s face slashed with knife in a fight at Islington pub


Ben Huntley, 40, of Warden Road in Camden attended a police station on Thursday (January 11) following a police appeal to hunt for him.

He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article, and is remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today (January 13).

The incident happened on April 26 last year when a 33-year-old man was reportedly watching a football match in a pub in Tollington Park at around 8.30pm.

He engaged in a verbal altercation with a man who allegedly removed a knife and slashed the man’s face, leaving a deep wound from his left cheek to his lip.

Paramedics rushed him to a hospital where his condition was assessed as not life-threatening. Met Police said the victim continues to receive treatment for his injury after a year on.

The suspect, they said, had left before the police arrived but following extensive enquiries and a media appeal issued on Sunday (January 7) the man has been arrested and charged.
