Mega real estate projects approved for Playa del Carmen – Riviera Maya News

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A real estate mega-project for Playa del Carmen has been approved by City Council. A second smaller project has also been approved in the same area. Municipal authorities approved a change of land use in May to accommodate the new housing projects.

More than 8,000 housing units will be constructed by Monterrey-based developer Beste Boden S.A.P.I de C.V. The developer made the request to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) for the change in land use earlier this year.

The multi-family real estate development called Kantal is to include ecotourism cabins, a vertical building of hotel apartments and a beach club with green areas and pathways.

The Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) recently approved the request which will allow the construction of a total of 8,840 homes and 150 hotel apartments.

The city’s latest mega real estate project is expected to cost around 28.6 billion pesos and will be constructed on 18 hectares of land next to the Iberostar Playa Paraíso in north Playa del Carmen.

The company will have 10 years to complete the project. With the approved change of land use, the first two years will be used to clear and prep the land before the start of construction.

At the same time, a second real estate project called Tierra Madre has also been approved for construction in the same area. That project will add another 1,778 homes to the area.

Both projects were approved by Carlos Ríos Castellanos, the head of the Territorial Planning Secretariat (Secretaría de Ordenamiento Territorial de Solidaridad) of Solidaridad.
