Metro-adjacent office project moves forward at 130 W. College Street in Chinatown


A office building near Metro’s Chinatown Station planned by the owners of the San Antonio Winery is starting to inch its way through the environmental review process.

The L.A. Department of City Planning has published an initial study for the Riboli family‘s 130 W. College Street development, which between North Spring and North Main Streets with a new five-story building featuring approximately 225,000 square feet of offices above roughly 8,200 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 440-car garage.

Grimshaw Architects is designing 130 College Street, which is described has consisting of “three stacked massings that progressively step back from Bruno Street as it rises.” Plans show new public and private open spaces, including a central courtyard located mid-block along Bruno Street, and a plaza at the intersection of Alameda and College streets. Retail uses would line the street frontage.

Pending project approvals, including a general plan amendment and a zone change, the initial study forecasts that construction of 130 College Street would be completed by 2028.

The proposed office complex at 130 College is the latest in a series of developments from the Riboli family in Chinatown, following the restoration of the Capitol Milling Building across the street as offices for rent. The family is also connected to a large mixed-use, high-rise complex slated for a narrow strip of land overlooking Los Angeles State Historic Park.
