Poland, Germany, Netherlands sign agreement to ease movement of troops

The signing ceremony took place in Brussels on Tuesday, and the document was signed by defence officials from the three countries.

Poland’s Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that in the wake of the war in Ukraine, accelerating and facilitating the movement of troops is of particular importance,

Kosiniak-Kamysz, who is also a deputy prime minister, added that it was necessary to reduce bureaucratic burdens and streamline procedures for crossing borders.

“Red tape often limits the effectiveness of operations,” he told reporters.

He added: “This letter of intent will make the movement and transport of troops much more effective thanks to better coordination and harmonization of procedures. This will help bolster the security of the entire European Union and all NATO allies.”

The agreement comes as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nears its second anniversary.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 707 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
