Take a look inside L.A.’s largest supportive housing development at 555 S. Crocker Street

At a ceremony last week, the Weingart Center and Chelsea Investment Corporation marked the completion of a Downtown high-rise which now ranks as the largest permanent supportive housing development in Los Angeles history.

The Weingart Tower, located at 555 S. Crocker Street next to the Weingart Center’s longtime home, is a 19-story building featuring 278 studio and one-bedroom apartments as well as on-site services and amenities for residents.

AXIS Architecture served as the project’s architect of record, building off of an entitlement design developed by Joseph Wong Design Associates. The tower has a contemporary look, large courtyards carved into the side of the tower, and a rooftop deck with views of the Downtown skyline to the west.

The project cost more than $160 million to complete.

While Weingart Tower is the largest supportive housing development in the city based on total number of units, it will not hang onto that crown for long. Weingart broke ground last year on a 17-story tower across the street at 600 S. San Pedro Street which will feature 298 additional homes, and has plans for a third building nearby.
