Bundesliga, Germany’s top division, and not the English Premier League will have five representatives in UEFA Champions League next season. Poor performances by English clubs resulted in Germany edging them for a fifth spot in Europe’s premier football club competition.

Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 semi-final first-leg victory against France’s Paris Saint-Germain
meant Germany can no longer be caught by England.

One club from Germany or England, who collectively performed best in European club competition this season, were granted an additional place in the revamped 36-team league phase being introduced for the 2024/25 season.

Italy, top of UEFA’s points table, wrapped up the first European Performance Spot last month and no matter how well Aston Villa do in the Europa Conference League, England cannot secure an extra berth.

Unai Emery-managed Aston Villa must now hold on to fourth spot in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League.

They are seven points clear of Tottenham but Spurs have two games in hand on Unai Emery’s team.

Stuttgart and RB Leipzig have officially qualified to UEFA Champions League for next season as Germany’s representatives.
